Even though I’m still studying English on my own I’ve decided to set to the journey to learn a little Japanese.
I’ve decided to take a pure CI approach. On one hand, I’m curious to see how far I’ll can get in 4000–5000 hours , on the other hand I’m worried about whether I’ll be able to understand the grammar over time. I’m almost 51 so my mind isn’t as bright as it used to be. But we’ll see.
I really appreciate the gardiac2002’s reports. I realize everyone is different, but I hope at least something will stick with me.
Because of my injury, I have a lot of time but now at the beginning I’m able to spend about 1.5–2 hours a day with CIJ. Divided into 30–40-minute blocks. When I have to focus on the screen, it makes me sleepy. We’ll see what changes by the end of the year.
Welcome! I hope you really enjoy learning Japanese here Its such a fun adventure, and the teachers do a wonderful job at making it approachable. Take it at your own pace and enjoy the journey! If you have time please post some updates down the line to let us know how you are getting on!
I expect to spend 4-5 years on this journey, or even much more. I can share my “progress” or thoughts about what has happened since I started every 6-8 months or every 500 hours.
Welcome! As for the sleepiness, you’ll build up a tolerance with time. In the beginning, I would watch videos on a tablet while walking slowly around the house, this helped me stay alert.
Are you finding that you have to repeat videos a LOT to retain much from them?
I have noticed that when I finish watching the video I don’t remember much. However some words that I didn’t remember come to mind when I watch another video few days later.I don’t memorise words and don’t try find out grammar.
I only watch videos with attention. I expect it will take time and rewatching videos many times to remember more and more.
