hi everyone ! i’ve recently finally started learning japanaese after engaging for years witj japanese medias and music.
i am a native italian ( and fluent english ) speaker and i’ve been studying mandarin chinese in university for about a year by now ( for which i also use CI to acquire new words aside from those studied at uni )
to put it simply i don’t know how to actually acquire the language. as for the other two i’ve always had classes with teachers who told me what to do, but with japanese i feel at loss. which books ? which apps ? i would Iike to be able to communicate in this language as soon as possible. i think CI is great (!!!) but since i am a very anxious person, despite having read the guide, i found myself making flashcards anyways ( also because sometimes i tend to turn subtitles on and understand the meaning of certain words through kanji thanks to chinese )
if anyone can give me some guidance on how to efficiently learn by myself, it’d be a huge help ! thank you
I am also quite new here to be honest (have been watching videos for a month now) and while I am very much a beginner, I am already starting to see some great improvements compared to the first day on here where I couldn’t even understand when a word ended and another one began!
I tried all sorts of apps in the past but did not learn anything, I also tried a online course with an italian teacher, however I did not learn much because we did a whole lot of grammar but when the course ended I felt like I had learned only “textbook Japanese” which does not exist in real life, and as the course had other students I felt like the teacher did not care much about individual progress. (not saying that live lessons or courses with teachers are bad or do not work, I just happened to join a bad one!)
So far, this is the only method that is working for me, I am planning to start implementing some crosstalk or some individual lessons soon but my main learning content is this website.
I hope this helps! I am sure that other people who have been here for a long time will be happy to share their journey and will also have some more insights given that their learning journey is much, much longer than mine.
