Just looking for other complete newbies to learning Japanese like myself to connect with.
Welcome! Fellow newbie here, I signed up just over a week ago and have been enjoying every moment of the journey so far.
Hi, Iām Trey. Yeah I signed up about a month ago. Iām currently 33hrs into this method, and I like it so far. I just wanted to connect /talk with other people who are on the journey as none of my friends are interested in learning a new language. So, Iām pretty much doing this alone.
Hello, I am around 150 hours, but I still feel like a beginner / newbie. If you want to connect you can contact me on discord.
Cool! Whatās your discord name or is it the same as the one here? wow, congratulations on 150 hours. You gotta tell me how do you feel so far with your comprehension? as I have no prior experience with Japanese, I do find it hard but thatās another reason Iām looking to connect with other people who are learning Japanese using comprehensible input. I want to continue to increase my motivation and meet people in the community.
My discord name is lejkos_86723. My comprehension level is interesting so far. Sometimes I can understand a vlog on the street with Shun or some other Youtubers, sometimes I cannot fully understand certain beginner videos. I realized that re-watching was really important for me as I missed so many concepts on the way. However, I feel that my Japanese is shaping every day a bit, so it really works.
Thatās pretty cool to hear about your progress so far and being able to understand YouTuber content to some degree. yeah, I have discovered repetition is definitely key here given it so different than English, which is my primary language. Iām currently doing input right now so far I have an hour and 15 minutes. but with a 34 hours I have now most of it has been repetition with mostly complete beginner videos and some beginner videos that I could understand. Currently, when Iām watching Japanese content iām starting to hear words here and there. Also, whatās your name?
My discord name is lejkos_86723.
Thatās awesome, are you learning 100% from CIJ or are you supplementing with other resources as well?
Iām currently no, Iām also simultaneously learning another language that I started before Japanese and I felt I overwhelmed myself with a lot of grammar. As That language does not have a lot of comprehensible inputs options like Japanese, Spanish or Mandarin. The only other resource Iām using is another comprehensible input channel thatās a lot smaller called Nihongo learning on YouTube his style is a little bit different in his approach to comprehensible Input for Japanese.
What about you and whatās your daily or monthly goal for hours?
I personally only use CIJ. I tried to use some Teppei, but I had the feeling that I learn faster with the videos.
Oh yes I know that channel although Iāve only watched a couple of videos. I made a fresh YouTube account to train to algorithm to provide me Japanese speaking content and that was one of the ones that popped up. Learning multiple languages at the same time sounds troublesome lol.
I aim to get a minimum of 60 minutes of some sort of input a day, mostly from CIJ. Though I often try to get more, through passive immersion whenever the opportunity arises.
@gardiac2002 I agree, CIJ is more effective for learning for sure. I only really listen to Teppei when I know Iām not going to be looking at the screen, like listening whilst walking or something. Although I downloaded the audio files from here yesterday, so Iāll probably be using those more frequently. Iāll
save Teppei for when Iām a bit more advanced, since itās still pretty difficult to comprehend a lot of it compared to CIJ.
Newbie here, started in October.
Hey, whatās up Sese! My name is Trey. Itās awesome to talk with new people also learning using this method, so we can share our experiences.
Yes, I like his channel because at beginning some of the complete beginner videos were still kind of tough for me, so I found a channel that was a little bit slower with the comprehensible input for Japanese, and I really liked his style. then, after that, I started to watch the complete beginner videos, and they seemed a lot easier to understand than previously before. Yes, learning another language that doesnāt have comprehensible input is definitely challenging because I have to switch methods mat. Still making time for both.
Oh yeah, and currently I can only give up to about an hour to an hour and a half sometimes two hours, when it comes to the comprehensible input for Japanese. Lol, after that, I start to kinda drift off.
Hey, all! Iām relatively new to this, been studying on and off for around 2 or 3 years at the moment.
Hey Alexander and Sese, nice to meet you. My name is Trey. sorry, I didnāt respond a lot earlier to you and @sese Iāve been sick off and on the last couple weeks. So Iāve been getting back into the swing of things. Tell me about howās your experiences so far using the comprehensible input method. Iām totally interested in checking in with people that are also learning Japanese and connecting with Japanese related topics as well as outside related topics. I followed @gardiac2002 on Discord, I donāt know if either of you also have one just so we can continue to talk.
Hi Trey, I canāt fault you, especially since it took me longer to respond! I feel as though doing solely comprehensible input makes language acquisition really solid. I have gotten forgetful, and have taken a few months off studying, but after coming back recently, I donāt feel as though I have lost much knowledge. That is to say, even with my flexible scheduling, I am really happy with what the comprehensible input method has allowed me to achieve.
