[Solved] Videos don't get marked as watched automatically?

Lately I’ve noticed that videos don’t get marked as watched automatically after I’ve watched them.

The history for the video gets updated with an entry for today’s date, and the watch time. But the “watched” checkbox remains unchecked.

I recently started using the Cast function to cast the videos to my Chromecast - I wonder if that is related?

Hey Patrick!

Yeah, unfortunately this is related. When you’re casting, you’re probably turning the phone screen off, and that lets your phone know to conserve resources for longer battery life, so it stops running (as many) cycles in the web browser, causing the time to not be tracked properly.

I’ve tried to find a reliable way to prevent the phone’s browser from downregulating resources like that, but it seems that that’s not allowed by design.

So, I would just recommend not locking your phone :skull: RIP battery life

Thanks Ben! It’s not a big problem as I can manually mark the videos as watched.

I would add though that sometimes I do leave the screen on while casting and still the watched status is not updated. Interestingly though, my “minutes watched” does increase, and that happens even with the screen off. This is the more important metric for me so it’s great that it works while casting.

That is interesting . The watched trigger only happens when more than 90% of the video’s duration is watched (actually watched), so if you had your phone locked for more than 10% of the time, then it might not trigger, depending on the phone.
