Chromecast quality issue

Hi!

When I cast on my chromecast, everything works well for a while, but soon enough the quality of the video drops down to what I suppose is 144p or 240p, then it goes back to HD and so on. I thought it was my internet connection or something like that, but the problem is that I casted from other apps and they never had this issue? (example apps from which I casted: youtube, frontend masters).

I really hope this is something that can be achieved on the site’s video player, because it’s a bit annoying when I can’t see the screen properly :smiling_face_with_tear: Alternatively, if anyone has any tips on how I can make this stop on my chromecast, please let me know!

Hi Diana! I’m sorry to hear you’re having these issues . This isn’t something we can directly fix on our end – the site’s video player doesn’t have much to do with Chromecasting once the Chromecast takes over (the Chromecast downloads the video to itself and plays it using its own player). It honestly sounds like an Internet connection issue, and unfortunately it doesn’t seem like there’s a way to disable Chromecast from automatically switching the resolution on you.

Do you have the latest Chromecast? If not, I recommend upgrading to the latest, and also updating it to the latest firmware.

I just added a feature that might help. Can you try it out for me please?

  1. Go here: Watch Settings
  2. Open the “Advanced” section at the bottom
  3. Set the Maximum Video Quality to 720p and click “Save”
  4. Reload the page and try casting to your Chromecast again

If it works, great! If not, try setting it to 480p. I know 720p and 480p don’t look as good as 1080p, but it’s probably better than switching to 240p all the time :smiling_face_with_tear:.
