Chromecast not working very reliably

Hi Team,

Unsure if many users use chrome cast. But I’ve noticed I can only cast a video to mine with about a 10% success rate, it then only once has neatly gone into the next video of the playlist and marked the video as watched. Does anyone else successfully use chromecast?

If not, how are you watching CIJapanese on a family TV rather than on the phone or website? I tend to end the night on the couch and would most prefer to watch on TV.

I haven’t been able to Chromecast from my phone either (pixel 7). I can cast other apps though.

I also reported issues with chromecast a while back. It was via Discord. At the time Programmer Ben worked on it and got casting to work.

It turns out I haven’t used it as much as I thought I would :sweat_smile: I tried it again today with the same devices (phone and tv) but it didn’t work in 3 tries. The name of the video appears on the tv briefly but the video doesn’t play, there’s just a static chromecast icon.

I have the same symptom, video name pops up for a second or so and then just a chrome cast icon

Hey all, thanks for reporting and describing the issue. This should be working now. Can you please test it and let me know if it works?

Playing with it now.

  1. Able to Chromecast a video from mobile device - working.
  2. Play/pause from mobile device - working.
  3. Watch time and history accrues as you watch - no. I watched two videos via Chromecast. One is not in my history (between the two videos in screenshot below) and the other only shows as 41% watched. Of the 24 minutes I watched. Only the 4 or so registered there counted
  4. Playlist rollover - no. Did not roll over to the next video in the playlist and I was unable to send another video. Work around was to close the app and clear the player and then send video which got me going again. Tested again and didn’t work again. So I’d say rollover isn’t going.
  5. Respects playlist edits whilst watching - cannot be tested until (4) is complete

Minor notes:

  • New voting feature popped up and worked for remote video
