The site is well designed, with videos tailored to each level, and the context allows for clear understanding without translation.
However, it lacks dialogue between native speakers (especially at the two beginner levels).
This would allow people learning Japanese to listen and produce more natural sentences during conversations.
Thank you so much for your feedback and suggestion😊
I agree that dialogue between native speakers can be really helpful for the learners!
For the Complete Beginner level, though, I think conversations would either end up being too unnatural or too difficult to follow, so I’m not planning to make conversation videos for that level at the moment.
That said, I’m planning to create more conversation videos for the Beginner level and up very soon, so please stay tuned!
Well said. If there is going to be conversation between native speakers in the beginner levels it needs to be at a speed, clarity and vocabulary level to match that level.
I think content that is too fast or complex will be disheartening to a learner.
Thank you so much Yuki先生, so excited for more beginner level conversation videos, they’re my favorite type of video! I’ve enjoyed the guessing game format ones so much, even though the difficulty scores are higher than the other videos I’ve been watching (I just reached 50 hours on the platform), they were all highly comprehensible and so fun. I think the question and answer format helps a ton with comprehension for beginners. I would absolutely love a weekly conversation podcast style video from you and the wonderful teachers here!
@shibata50, these are the beginner level guessing game conversation videos I’ve been watching - I’d love to see many more in this style!
Not just dialogue but informal Japanese in general. Most Japanese content for learners is almost 100% formal desu/masu form, and so we don’t get any exposure to informal Japanese.
I often can only think of the desu/masu form of a verb and have to consciously (and slowly) work backwards to conjugate the verb normally.
