Passive Viewing Mode

Hello,

Would it be possible to add a toggle to videos for “passive viewing.” Sometimes I want to throw on videos in the background while I’m working. Since I’m not actively watching, I don’t want it to add to my minutes for the day or even show up in my history (the bar graph is a huge motivator for me, and I wouldn’t want to “cheat” on my ten hours of active viewing a week). I know I could manually delete the videos, but that would be cumbersome after a couple hours of passively watching while working. Because of this, I never really use the site for passive immersion.

What I picture is a toggle (maybe next to the Downloads and Notes buttons) to turn on “Passive Mode.” While it’s on, videos wouldn’t show up in history or count towards time. Preferably it stays on for all videos until toggled off, rather than on a per video basis. It might also be nice for a bright warning to be displayed above or below the video while it’s on, so people won’t forget to turn it off; maybe something like “Passive Mode is enabled. Viewing history will not be saved. Click HERE to turn it off,” in a contrasty color.

Either way, thanks for all the hard work you put into this site!

I like this idea a lot. Just as an added suggestion for Ben, it could also be something within the dashboard if thats a better spot for it. Maybe a toggle for something like “Pause time tracking” or something if it isn’t able to relay from video to video.

Oh yeah, putting the toggle on the dashboard seems like a good spot! It is tracking related afterall. Depending on how much more work it would take, it could even be “Pause time tracking for X hours.” Being able to enter an amount of time before it toggles itself back off would solve the problem of forgetting to turn it off manually. Then you wouldn’t need the warning message I suggested initally.

That’s a great idea! I’ve added it to my list.

Thanks Ben! Looking forward it to it! (No rush though.)

Yeah, this has been something I’ve wanted to be able to do to. I’d like it if there was some sort of visual reminder that it’s on. I’d hate to turn it on, and then forget to turn it off.
