I believe that “Times watched:” does not have anything to do with your total time. I think that @ben mentioned somewhere that it counts every 30 seconds watched, or the counter starts after 30 seconds played. Something like that.
It might just be a coincidence, but if I count the time for each videos I watched, the total should’ve been around 3.5 hours, but the total was way under, at 2 hours and some. It seems to correlate quite well with the “time watched”.
Hello! Sorry for the late reply – I’ve been exceptionally busy this past month.
@mpiece14 Thank you for sharing this. I hear about this type of issue every now and then, but it’s so hard to figure out what the actual issue is . I think in this case, part of the discrepancy can be explaining by one video being split across two activities (which can happen if your browser reloads the page while watching a video). Looking at the screenshot you shared, the first two activities are both for [ALttL: SS EP01](Comprehensible Japanese), and they add up above 1.00 times watched (0.35 + 0.71 = 1.06). I’m hoping this explains the issues for that. As for the [Country guessing game with Ken](Comprehensible Japanese) video, I have no idea , but that’s the only one that seems off. Could that just be a video that you only watched part of? Also, has this issue been happening again recently?
Yes, it’s true that “Times watched” doesn’t always equal the total time. As @baosatemp said, the total time would be half if you were watching at 2x speed. As for the 30 seconds thing, I think it’s just that the site ignores watch activities less than 60 seconds. The site records activities accurate to the second, not to 30 seconds.
I’ve never seen it happen again, except when I use Airplay.
Of course when watching at a faster speed the total time is different than the video. Sadly, I still struggle at 1x speed so that’s not a problem I can relate to.
I believe that with AirPlay, it works better if you keep your phone screen on, because then it keeps your phone’s browser running. When you lock your screen, typically phones turn off the browser, and so the watch time wouldn’t get tracked.
