I am thinking about using the CJ transcripts for reading practice. So I was just wondering, are the furigana above the kanji in the CJ transcripts checked by people, or are they unchecked AI (or similar)? Either way would be OK, but I don’t know that many kanji, so it would be good to know if I can rely on their accuracy, or if it would be good to double-check sometimes. Thanks!!
Hi @mark888!
Yes, the furigana are all checked by Yuki先生, so you can rely on their accuracy . If you find any that are wrong, please let us know (mistakes have been really rare, though). We recommend reading along with the audio, by the way, which you can do on the Read page – if you do that, you’ll be able to “hear” the furigana as well .

That’s great to hear, thank you very much! I’m thinking about trying to use these transcripts as my main reading practice. I know I need to read a lot more, but for different reasons a lot of the popular alternatives for reading practice don’t hold my interest for long. But many talks here are interesting so I thought it’s worth a shot. (: Thanks. And also thank you Yuki for looking over these, I know it must be a lot of work. I wonder if there are other students of Japanese who have used these transcripts as their main diet of Japanese reading practice? I’ve been thinking of the site mainly as a listening resource, but really the transcripts are so well prepared, and lengthy, and there are so many available that finding the appropriate level isnt that hard… so it really seems to be a good idea to me…? At this point I can read a couple of hundred kanji and maybe know 1500 or 2000 words so it seems realistic. I’m a high beginner low intermediate, from what I can tell on your site (I almost wish there were a specific category just for this middle area (: ) Anyway I’m just rambling, random thoughts about this site. It’s great and very helpful, thank you.
I’m happy to hear you like our videos and transcripts Some other CI sites don’t put out transcripts, but we think it’s really worth it to have lots of level-appropriate reading materials to learn from. I’m glad you find the site’s transcripts useful!
If you want, you can make a post to ask about that specifically, or you can ask around if there’s anyone like that on the CIJ Discord server
